The Fitting Room![]() |

How long has it been since you last checked your bra size? If you're like most women, it's been longer than you can remember. According to an article in O Magazine, as many as 85% of women are wearing the wrong size bra! Various life changes and stages have an affect on a woman's bust measurement, such as pregnancy, weight variations and breast modification surgeries. The average woman will wear numerous bra sizes throughout her life. Since both the "fit" and "comfort" of a bra is so important, you may want to check for your proper size using the method described below. GETTING STARTEDStart by wearing a bra you own and fits you perfectly (or as close to perfect as possible, and make sure it's not padded or a sports bra). If it isn't too constrictive, and the band doesn't ride up in the back, then order that size. When the bra is on, the cups should fully contain the breast tissue. There should be no spilling out at top (too small) and no excess fabric in the cup (too big). The center front should rest close to the chest bone. The size around your chest should feel comfortably snug-but not too tight where the back would bind, and not too loose where the back would ride up. The straps should be adjusted to support and align the breasts evenly. Keep in mind that everyone is smaller on one side and that this strap is pulled a little tighter. In addition, the bra should stay in place as you bend and stretch.
FINDING YOUR PERSONAL BRA SIZE
Holding the measuring tape gently but firmly, measure horizontally around your body, directly under your arms. Look at yourself in a mirror to make sure that the tape measure is parallel to the floor. Note: When you take these measurements, round to the closest whole inch, either up or down. (For example, if your measurement is 39 3/8" or less, round down to 39". If your measurement is 39 1/2" or more, round up to 40".)
Standing up straight with your arms down at your sides, measure horizontally around your body at the fullest part of your bust. Wrap the tape measure around you so that it is just touching, but not binding. Again, make sure that the tape is parallel to the floor. Round up or down to the nearest inch, as you did to find your band size.
Your cup size is determined by subtracting the band measurement from the bust measurement. The difference between your band measurement and your cup size measurement will give you your cup size. You can use the calculator below to figure your cup size. Size Calculator
